Florida Watch is looking for a Temporary Deputy Director through November 30th. The Deputy Director reports to Florida Watch’s executive director and manages relationships with progressive organizations across Florida and the Nation. They help craft culturally conscious messaging to disseminate to Florida media outlets and partner organizations, while coordinating overall progressive communications strategy.

The Florida Communications & Research Hub is a partnership between Florida Watch and Progress Florida that provides communications infrastructure for Florida’s progressive organizations and coalitions. The Comms Hub leads innovative campaigns to advance progressive issues, win elections, and build a better Florida. We are driven by quantitative and qualitative research used to create engaging, authentic, and Florida-specific communications content. We meet people where they are in real life – on their mobile devices and computers.
Qualifications
- Experience in progressive organizations or in political/campaign communications either as a press secretary, communications director or deputy communications director.
- Demonstrated passion for electing progressive candidates and advancing public interest driven issues and policy solutions.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills. The ability to explain and present constituency-specific messaging to the media as well as coalition partners and others in a compelling way that moves people to take action.
- Strong organizational and networking skills.
- Detail-oriented, goal-driven, with an affable and professional manner and ability to manage confidential and/or sensitive information.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to think on your feet and adapt to the ever changing political landscape in Florida.
- Ability to get things done on a tight deadline.
- Creative thinker who can develop detailed plans and execute them without much oversight.
- Direct Florida experience is a must.
Responsibilities
- Manages relationships with Florida Watch’s state and national partners.
- Briefing Florida Watch partners on programs and accessing partners’ digital and research needs.
- Cultivate strong relationships with members of the press, constituency group leaders, and statewide partners.
- Turn research (qualitative, quantitative, modeling, etc.) into effective constituency-specific messaging for voter contact and utilization by partner organizations. Work in collaboration with the creative content team to craft effective ads.
- Part of the Florida Watch leadership team that advises on the organization’s program and research needs.
- Accurately relaying partners digital and research needs to the Florida Watch team.
- Travel as needed to attend meetings with partner organizations.
Compensation and Benefits
This role pays a stipend of $4,000-$9,000 per month and will be commensurate with experience and if the role is full time or part time. We also offer a stipend for health insurance, a flexible work environment and paid time off.
