STATEMENTS: Progress Florida & Florida Watch on the End of the 2025 Legislative Session

TALLAHASSEE — Today, the Legislature adjourned the 2025 Legislative Session sine die following an extended session that put Florida on the verge of a shutdown of state government.

In response, Progress Florida Executive Director Mark Ferrulo and Florida Watch Executive Director Natasha Sutherland issued the following statements:

“Floridians are dealing with an affordability crisis, as the costs of insurance, housing, and groceries continue rising across the state,” said Progress Florida Executive Director Mark Ferrulo. “Instead of focusing on the real affordability challenges Floridians face, legislative leadership extended this year’s session to give massive tax breaks to multinational corporations—without passing any policies to lower everyday costs or boost wages for hardworking families. This legislative session was a missed opportunity to put people first and provide Florida families and seniors the freedom to be healthy, prosperous, and safe.”

“For hardworking families and seniors stretching every dollar to make ends meet, a budget isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity,” stated Florida Watch Executive Director Natasha Sutherland. “This year provided a historic opportunity to cut taxes for all Floridians while closing loopholes for multinational corporations to make sure they pay the taxes they owe on their profits in our state, lowering costs for workers and seniors to deliver some economic relief at a time when too many are struggling with the cost of living. Floridians deserve elected officials who will fight for them, but instead legislative leaders used their time in Tallahassee to give more handouts to their corporate elite donors instead of accomplishing a single thing to build a brighter future in our state.”
