Operations Director (Full Time)

Reports to Florida Watch’s Executive Director. The Operations Director leads the administrative, compliance, development, and accounting functions at Florida Watch.

Florida Watch is a communications and research organization that serves as the progressive community’s in-state hub for message development, digital communications, and research. Florida Watch keeps an eye on everything that goes on in our state to hold our elected officials accountable when they support laws and policies that make it harder for everyday Floridians to be healthy, prosperous, and safe.

Qualifications

  • Four plus years of operations and compliance experience with 501(c)(4)’s or political organizations. 
  • Campaign finance and non-profit filing knowledge.
  • Preferably at least one cycle of fundraising and development experience.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask. 
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including effective management of internal communications.
  • Ability to think on your feet and adapt to the ever-changing political landscape in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Developing & tracking affiliated budgets.
  • Working with Florida Watch’s accountant to create monthly and annual reports on the organization’s finances. 
  • Working with Florida Watch’s accountant and lawyer to file all necessary financial reports for Florida Watch, Florida Watch’s affiliated 527 PC, and any additional organizations created by Florida Watch (possibly 501(c)3). 
  • Working with Florida Watch’s lawyers to ensure all programmatic activity complies with federal, state, and local laws as well as fundraising stipulations.
  • Monitoring and creating all internal control processes to ensure full compliance with all state and federal laws as well as industry best practices.
  • Constantly look for ways to leverage technology to improve both the organization’s operations but also our programmatic work.
  • Acting as the Human Resources point of contact for all staff, processing payroll, managing PTO & benefits through Florida Watch’s PEO carrier, and managing performance review processes. 
  • Following news, policy, and legislation changes to ensure Florida Watch is at the precipice of compliance, operations, and human resources.
  • Participating in the Florida Watch leadership team that advises on the organization’s program and research needs.
  • Overseeing grant applications and reporting, facilitating development initiatives, and acting as the point of contact for donors as necessary.
  • Overseeing and tracking programmatic endeavors, acting as a backstop to ensure efficiency and project completion.
    • Creating and maintaining a project management dashboard to provide an easily accessible organization-wide overview of programmatic endeavors.
  • Assist the Executive Director in managing external partnerships, including coordinating partner requests and weekly meeting logistics.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary band for this full-time role is $65,000-$85,000 annually and will be commensurate with experience. We also offer a 401k with up to a 5% match, health insurance, disability and life insurance, flexible work environment, and paid time off.
