The new report shows accelerating inflation due to the war in Iran, supported by Donald Trump and Florida’s Republican Delegation, including Gubernatorial Nominee Byron Donalds
TALLAHASSEE — The latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.6% in September. The all items index rose 3.7 percent for the 12 months ending September, a larger increase than the 3.4-percent increase reported for the 12 months ending in August. The index for gasoline rose 9.1 percent in September, accounting for over half of the monthly all items increase. The report indicates that U.S. inflation accelerated last month—driven by spiking gas prices due to the war in Iran—underscoring the severe economic pressures straining household budgets across the state. The Climate Solutions Lab at Brown University’s Walton School of International and Public Affairs’ Iran War Energy Cost Tracker estimates the war has cost the average Florida household more than $500.
“Inflation is rising, and higher fuel prices, due to the war in Iran are driving up the cost of everyday life. Families feel it at the pump, in the checkout line, and in bills that keep climbing while their paychecks struggle to keep up,” said Lisa Zayas, Deputy Communications Director for Florida Watch.
The data shows a relentless upward trend in essential consumer expenses, including gas, food, and housing. These compounding costs diminish purchasing power for Florida’s working families and seniors, forcing difficult choices just to cover basic necessities.
“Byron Donalds voted twice to continue the war in Iran, then was too busy campaigning to show up for a third vote. While he put his political ambitions ahead of the taxpayer-funded job he was elected to do, hardworking Floridians across the state showed up, put in their hours at work, and earned their paychecks only to watch inflation make every dollar buy less. Floridians deserve better, and they deserve to know who is responsible,” Zayas added.
