TALLAHASSEE — On Friday, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released its latest consumer price index report, revealing that U.S. inflation picked up last month as gas prices jumped due to the war in Iran. For Florida’s working families and seniors, this report underscores the severe affordability challenges that are squeezing household budgets to the breaking point.
“These numbers only confirm what Florida’s working families and seniors feel every time they stop at the gas pump and check out at the supermarket: the cost of living is rising, and Byron Donalds’ unwavering support for Donald Trump’s agenda is hurting our families. Instead of offering common-sense solutions, Donalds continues to act as a rubber stamp for Trump’s failed economic agenda that has skyrocketed everyday costs and dismantled critical programs Floridians rely on,” said Lisa Zayas, Deputy Communications Director for Florida Watch.
Byron Donalds’ record of putting his loyalty to Trump, to corporate special interests as well as his political ambition, ahead of Florida families, speaks for itself. Donalds has voted twice to prolong a costly war in Iran that is driving up gas prices, supports illegal tariffs on everyday goods, voted for the largest healthcare cuts in history to give his wealthy donors tax breaks, and voted against a bipartisan housing reform bill to expand housing availability and lower the cost of housing.
“Florida families are being forced to choose between basic necessities while Byron Donalds supports the policies that benefit his billionaire buddies who fund his campaigns – and turns his back on hardworking Floridians. We ask you once more, Byron: how can we trust you won’t betray us when time and again you’ve broken your promises to put us first and you have done nothing but turn your back on us?” said Zayas.
